In general? +5 armor. But you could always get a specific weapon for specific incidences.

The +7 vs physical is by far the worst.(you have pleanty of vs physical) +30 hp isnt very good because monsters dont spike...and you rarely get low on health.
The last 2 are a toss up. Gonna have a lot of elemental and not much physical? Bring warding. Anything else(or even the first option...2 AL is not that much)? bring +5. |

I prefer the +30, becuase that helps most against Hexes and all, which is what tends to do the real damage to me as a tank, whever a mesmer wanders in or whatever. Usually I have enough armor and all that 5 will help, but not really needed, so it doenst do a whole lot more, but the Hex's go right past armor, so the 30 health works well for the degen. I like it.

I use a 15 always sundering with +5 always and switch out to a vampiric 15^ +30 if the damage is not enough. I seem to crank out more damage with a vampiric on the mobs that hold out against my other axe.

I only like the +5 armor and the +30 health. I think they both have uses in PvE and PvP. +30 is nice in Hex heavy areas or to switch to against a hex heavy PvP team. Otherwise the +5 Armor would be my #1 choice. Can you really have too much armor?

I voted +5 always, but it would be a good idea to have 2 swords for tanking: one with +7 vs. phys, one with +7 vs. elemental.

+30 HP isin't that good for PvE, the only AI in the game that will ever spike you is the zashien challenge/zazhien elite ob spike team...
+7 vs physical is also a bad choice. You already have 100 vs physical, and even more if you use WY, dolyak, stances. +7 vs elemental and +5 armor are probably a toss up. If all you'll be taking or nearly all you'll be taking is elemental, go with the warding. If it's going to be a mix go with the Defense. |

It really does depend on what you're facing ... +5 armor if for some reason you didn't know what the enemy was in a given instance. If there were mesmers or something that produced massive degen I've take health instead.

+30 isnt all what its hyped up to be. You wont feel the difference until your health gets to 30 out of 500. And if your health gets that low you might as well just die.

With many stances, you can block almost every single physical attacks... so +physical is pointless (for a tanking purpose)
Most things you can't block are magical damage, and usually is elemental... hence that is a good way to go. While the damage that you recieve the MOST, are armor ignoring magical damages. In this case, only HP and your healer can help you. When faction is out, I would most likely use 2 superior runes along with those +HP armor and +HP mod. As monsters don't spike, that is also another reason why HP aren't so imporant (55 monk anyone?). Even if there isn't any new HP armor, and I wanted to make a pure tanking build, I wouldn't mind dropping HP to below 400. |

I have gladiator armour, and I prefer +7 warding (elemetal) because of it. I have 100 versus physical already. +30hp is good where there's alot of health degen areas usually.
+7 physical is very good for things like troll farming; places where you're going to be getting hit by physical damage, and hit alot. But, as some people have pointed out, if you're stance tanking, odds are they aren't going to hit you in the first place. +5 armour is perfectly fine, a good all rounder. |
